About Dr Porter

Dr. Porter is a sports medicine-trained orthopedic surgeon, he specializes in arthroscopic surgery and treating sports injuries. His training involved the latest minimally invasive arthroscopic surgical techniques to treat injuries of the shoulder, knee, elbow, or hip. He is trained as a surgeon, but believes in the value of non-surgical treatment for the appropriate injuries. He’s experienced in some of the latest techniques, including biologic treatments such as platelet rich plasma (PRP). He is dedicated to helping his patients return to their desired activities or lifestyle.

Dr. Porter also received special training in shoulder replacement surgery during his fellowship, including reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). Complex cases of shoulder arthritis due to fracture or irreparable rotator cuff tendon tears now have improved arthroplasty implant design solutions, including 3D computer planning software and custom implant guides. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has become an option for complex shoulder problems involving irreparable rotator cuff tears and arthritis. Similar to the increase in hip and knee arthroplasty, younger patients with shoulder arthritis are undergoing arthroplasty, and shoulder arthroplasty is becoming a more common surgery. Advances in surgical techniques and implant designs in shoulder replacement have greatly improved to better the outcomes for patients. He is committed to treating your shoulder injury or ailment to help you return to the activities you love.

Dr. Porter originally grew up in the Boston area playing sports and he still follows the local teams. His interest in orthopedics stemmed from his love of sports and the ability to help people get back to their favorite activities. He completed medical school and residency in Massachusetts. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship in San Diego, after which he relocated to Northern California with his family. He and his wife love the Bay Area and all that it has to offer. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing and watching sports, woodworking, hiking, traveling, and trying new foods and restaurants.
