About Dr Richards

Joshua Richards MD, MPH is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in surgeries of the hand and wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UCSF. He has performed thousands of complex reconstructive and fracture surgeries of the upper extremity since he began practice in 2006.

Dr. Richards obtained his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology at Cornell University, his Masters of Public Health at Columbia University, and his Medical Degree at New York Medical College.

He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the San Francisco Orthopedic Residency Program. He then returned to Cornell University’s Hospital for Special Surgery to complete his fellowship training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery.

Dr. Richards has volunteered internationally in Haiti and Africa and locally for Operation Access and San Francisco General Hospital. He currently volunteers in the education of UCSF Hand Fellows.
